Around Austin

O.K. I'm nearly 29 years old and I am crazy loca over my new bike! It is a Trek 4300 mountain bike (doesn't that sound hella cool). 8) It is royal blue and silver and I have a matching bike helmet and bike rack (oh-la-la). I rode today for an hour - not as easy riding as I thought. But the most important thing is that I didn't fall off right away when I first got on. I can shift gears and everything! For those of you who don't know I will begin training officially on April 12th for the Danskin Triatholon which is why I needed the bike. The Danskin Tri will be on June 12th. My friend Kristin talked me into it. We will be swimming 1/2 mile, biking 12 miles, and running 3.1 miles. What can I say...peer pressure is a bitch. Wish me luck!

Congrats on the bike! Your mom and I are just getting back into walking, we probably have a good way to go to get to mountain biking. Have a great time :D

O.K., my bike is really cool and everything and running's good too but swimming is [b:84e64e6b2e]HARD[/b:84e64e6b2e]! I went swimming for the first time today - you know swimming laps. Apparently, I know what to do with my arms and legs but my breathing sucks. I thought breathing was an innate skill. Little did I know...I definitly need a lot of practice. I'm seriously thinking of getting a floaty (or maybe two) for the race. You think anyone would notice?

I think they would, but your mother said it would be al right. Tell the judges you have her permission.

Yes, you read that right, I am a triathlete as of about 10:30 am on Sunday, June 12th, 2005. My race results are as follows: swim 29:58 (slower than I would have liked), bike 56:29 (faster than I anticipated) and run 40:24 (slower than I should have been). Overall, I finished the course in 2:12:57, faster than I anticipated. Very cool! My rank out of 2850 women was 2055. It will be higher next year. It was a bumpy ride with lots of little obstacles and enormous hills (literally, hills on the bike course - atleast 4 huge ones and probably 6 or so more smaller ones. Oh, and then there was the one huge one at the end of the run too), but it was very empowering and a wonderful life altering experience all around. I recommend it to anyone. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you decide you can. I hope to continue to run, bike, and swim for the rest of my life. In fact since the race, I biked 9 miles yesterday and swam 900m today. I definitly plan to do more triathlons. Anyone want to join me?
The Danskin Motto: The woman who starts the race is not the same woman who finishes it.

Wow, that's awesome! Congratulations. Glad to hear you're keeping it up as well.
